Only Yours Page 6

  “And, was it?”

“Yes. Otherwise I wouldn’t be here, like this, having breakfast with you and wearing little more than an ounce of clothing.”

“If it’s too heavy, you could always take the shirt off.”

  “I’m fine.”

“I thought we might stay here one more night and then we can drive up the coast and back to Santa Rosa. I wouldn’t mind spending another week with my dad.”

“Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day,” she pointed out. “It would be a great present for him.” She thought for a moment, and then explained, “I need to drive though because I have to have my car for work.”

His shoulders lifted and fell on a shrug, drawing her attention as it always did to their width. Her pulse raced.

“That’s fine. Maybe we can stop along the way and have a romantic dinner. If you’re lucky, I might even buy you a box of chocolates.”

She shook her head. “I’d prefer some of those sugary candy hearts. The ones with the corny sayings like, ‘I Love You’ or ‘Be Mine’.”

He shot her another of his boyish grins. “I like the way you say it.”

  “Say what?”

  “I love you.”

Her heart stopped and then restarted with a quick jolt. Oh how she’d love to hear those words in the right context. “So, it’s settled. We’ll head for Santa Rosa in the morning.”

“The next weekend is a long one with President’s Day on the Monday. You can drive me back and spend another weekend. Or I could rent a car to get us back here and then drive you home again in my car. Either way, I intend to have you to myself for three full days.”

“And three heated nights?” she asked.

  “You can bet on it.”

“Good. I like our nights together.”

He pushed his plate aside and stood directly behind her. Wrapping her in his arms, he snaked his hand beneath the half-buttoned shirt. The moment he enclosed her breast in his warm palm, she was ready and eager to make love again.

He nuzzled her ear. His breath fanned over her throat when he whispered, “There is one problem with going back to Santa Rosa.”

A gasp escaped her when he tweaked her nipple between his thumb and forefinger. She caught her breath and asked, “What would that be?”

“I’ll have to share you with my family. No doubt it’ll be a bit awkward around Garrett, at least at first.”

“You’ve got nothing to worry about.”

  “I don’t?”

“No, you don’t. Just like it says on those silly candy hearts, I’m ‘Only Yours’.”

  A word about the author…

Like most authors, Nancy Fraser began writing at an early age, usually on the walls and with crayons or, heaven forbid, permanent markers. Her love of writing often made her the English teacher’s pet, which, of course, resulted in a whole lot of teasing. Still, it was worth it.

When not writing (which is almost never), Nancy dotes on her five beautiful grandchildren and looks forward to traveling and reading when time permits. Nancy lives in Atlantic Canada, where she enjoys the relaxed pace and colorful people.
